SeiZen, the biostimulant developed by the Spanish company Seipasa, has obtained European registration under Product Function Category (PFC) 6 (B) (Non-microbial plant biostimulant) according to the new EU Regulation 2019/1009.
This new certification brings added value to SeiZen, as it guarantees its marketing at European level under its specific function as a biostimulant product, based on the multiple tests that guarantee its efficacy and action on crops.
The product has a broad label, ranging from field crops to horticultural crops, woody crops, ornamentals and medicinal or aromatic plants.
SeiZen is a liquid bio-stimulant which is ideal for crop productivity improvement. It gives the plant the ability to increase its energy potential and acts as a physiological enhancer: it stimulates cell division, growth and differentiation and enables improved crop yields. SeiZen is also designed to prepare crops for challenging situations and increased energy requirements.
The product is developed on the basis of PK-Tech, for which the company has initiated a patent process. This technology is based on the ASM (Anti-Senescence Molecule), developed by Seipasa to make SeiZen a state-of-the-art biostimulant.
With PK-Tech
“With SeiZen we have gone one step further than the standard biostimulant concept. It is not a product designed to provide a biochemical substrate with a specific functionality, rather SeiZen allows the plant to convert light energy into chemical energy and redirect it to where it considers necessary depending on its developmental stage,” points out Francisco Espinosa, Seipasa’s R&D director.
“With PK-Tech, we have reached an earlier metabolic stage that allows the plant to direct energy to where it is needed, as it has a much greater energy capacity thanks to the boosting and biostimulating effect of the ASM. In other words,” says Espinosa, “the main difference with any other biostimulant is that with SeiZen we give the plant the ability to keep its energy factory going and functioning continuously”.
New era for biostimulants
The certification of SeiZen as a new biostimulant with European registration under PFC-6 opens a new phase in the development of biostimulant products for Seipasa. With a very broad and well-defined biocontrol portfolio, the company is focusing its R&D efforts on strengthening its portfolio of biostimulant solutions to access new markets and crop segments.
“Increasingly, biostimulants will be sold on knowledge rather than price. In other words, the new EU Regulation 2019/1009 takes us to a much more technical market where all the knowledge, development and innovation we have behind us will be key to reaching the farmer with a differentiated proposition,” says Espinosa.
The main added value of this regulatory framework, which certifies and endorses SeiZen, is that for the first time it is possible to legally market a product at European level with a specific biostimulant claim, differentiating it from the mere nutritional contribution of a fertiliser.
This makes it possible to clearly communicate to the farmer how the product actually works, with the full backing of current regulations and the added security and confidence that this brings. It also provides regulatory validation that it is possible to intervene in and improve the physiological processes of the plant, going beyond conventional products that simply deliver nutrients.
